August 7, 2008

Dear Travel Advocate:

Time is running out to pass the Travel Promotion Act (TPA). Washington policymakers need to hear from YOU! With Congress currently in recess and scheduled to adjourn for the year in late September, we have few legislative days remaining to secure the passage of the Travel Promotion Act (S. 1661/H.R. 3232), a bill that has secured support from more than half of the House of Representatives and nearly half of the Senate.

If the legislation is not passed in these last few days of Congress, the travel community and its hundreds of champions in Congress must start from square one in 2009. We must do all we can to complete the legislation in 2008.

During the month of August, your Members of Congress are at home in their districts. TIA has just launched a new online tool, the Travel Action Headquarters (www.TravelActionHQ.org), which makes it simple to reach out to your legislators. Click here for detailed talking points on TPA. Armed with this information, here are four ways you can make a difference:

Meet with Your Member of Congress:

  1. Click here to locate your Senators and Representative by zip code.
  2. Click the “Contact” tab to find the phone number for their District Offices.
  3. Call and set up a meeting with your Member to discuss the importance of TPA.
  4. If he or she is unable to meet, discuss with the staff member the importance of TPA.

Attend a Town Hall Meeting in Your District:

  1. Click here to locate your Senators and Representative by zip code.
  2. Click here to see if your Members of Congress are holding a town hall meeting in your home town in August.
  3. Attend a meeting and urge your Member to ensure TPA is passed this year.

Send a Letter to Congressional Leaders:

  1. Click here to quickly and easily email a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and House Republican Leader John Boehner to urge them to move TPA at once.

Send a Letter to Your Member of Congress:

  1. Click here to locate your Senators and Representative by zip code.
  2. Click the “Bills” tab to see if they have co-sponsored the Travel Promotion Act.
  3. From that page, you can quickly and easily send a letter directly to each Member thanking him or her for co-sponsorship or urging him or her to co-sponsor now.

Visit your Travel Action Headquarters at www.TravelActionHQ.org to join our grassroots network and utilize the many resources that will help ensure TPA is enacted. If you have never reached out to Congress, the time is NOW!

Sincerely,
