NCDO Strategic Plan  -  2006-2008

The National Council of Destination Organizations (NCDO), an industry council of the Travel Industry Association of America (TIA), represents the more than 400 local and regional destination marketing organizations that are members of TIA. The mission of the NCDO is to enhance the effectiveness of tourism destination marketing professionals and organizations.

Strategy
Position the NCDO as a respected resource for members and as an important component to help move TIA's agenda

Tactic: Build capacity for council to function better by reexamining board structure and governance

Tactic: Endorse TIA's initiative to improve the image of America abroad and articulate the message at the local level

Strategy
Establish the NCDO as a "trend identifier/communicator" for its members so they become more efficient and effective in managing their destinations

Tactic: Monitor, interpret and communicate trends and issues affecting DMOs

Tactic: Bring together members to inform, educate, address issues affecting DMOs and mobilize for action

Strategy
Model and promote efforts and relationships that advance DMOs as "connected" businesses that provide community value added benefits

Tactic: Develop a plan to identify, prioritize and mobilize industry support around local and national tourism issues impacting DMOs

Tactic: Identify and initiate alliances and partnerships that collaboratively advance DMOs and foster greater unity

Strategy
Provide value to NCDO organizations and their industry/members

Tactic: Create programs and services that advance DMOs

NOTE: A longer term strategy is to address workforce needs and development issues
